CNC Lathe Programmer

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of CNC lathe programming, including:

  • G-code and M-code programming

  • Conversational programming (if applicable)

• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications

• Competent in machine setup:

  • Tool selection, tool offsets, and work offsets

  • Chucking methods, part alignment, and zero setting

• Experience with single-spindle and/or multi-axis CNC lathes (e.g. 2-axis, live tooling, Y-axis, sub-spindle – as applicable)

• Familiarity with CAM software (e.g. Mastercam, Fusion 360, Esprit) is an advantage

• Knowledge of cutting tools, inserts, feeds & speeds, and machining strategies

• Ability to conduct first article inspection and make program adjustments as required

• Experience using measuring instruments:

  • Vernier calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, height gauges, etc.

Job Execution & Quality

• Able to program, set up, and run jobs independently with minimal supervision

• Capable of optimizing programs for cycle time, tool life, and surface finish

• Ensure parts meet dimensional tolerances and quality standards

• Perform basic machine troubleshooting and resolve machining issues

• Maintain proper documentation of programs and setup sheets
