Job Description
1. Machining & Fabrication
- Operate conventional and CNC machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, drills, cutting saws, and boring machines to fabricate or modify structural steel parts.
- Machine components like base plates, gusset plates, stiffeners, flanges, and anchor connections to required tolerances.
- Set up, align, and clamp workpieces according to technical drawings or templates.
- Perform threading, drilling, reaming, and surface finishing to ensure proper fit-up during structural assembly.
2. Structural Repair & Modification Support
- Re-machine or resurface damaged steel members (e.g., bearing seats, flanges, or column ends) as part of structural repair or retrofit works.
- Assist engineers in reverse engineering or remanufacturing of obsolete or corroded parts.
- Support welding and fitting teams by ensuring machined components meet alignment and dimensional requirements for site assembly.
3. Equipment Maintenance & Calibration
- Conduct routine maintenance and calibration of machine tools to maintain accuracy and performance.
- Ensure cutting tools, jigs, and fixtures are properly maintained and stored.
- Troubleshoot minor equipment issues and report mechanical faults.
4. Quality Assurance & Documentation
- Measure and verify machined dimensions using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and coordinate measuring tools.
- Record machining parameters, inspection data, and job completion reports.
- Comply with quality control standards such as ISO 9001 or project-specific QA/QC requirements.
5. Technical & Engineering Support
- Interpret engineering drawings, welding symbols, and fabrication specifications.
- Collaborate with structural engineers, fitters, and welders to ensure component compatibility.
- Provide technical feedback on machinability, tolerances, and material performance.
6. Workplace Safety & Compliance
- Follow Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) guidelines for hot work, lifting, and machine operation.
- Participate in toolbox meetings and hazard assessments before commencing tasks.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe machining area.
Requirements:
- Education: Diploma or NITEC / Higher NITEC in Mechanical Engineering, Precision Engineering, or Metal Fabrication Technology.
- Experience: 2–5 years of experience in machining or fabrication related to structural steel, heavy equipment, or marine engineering.
- Skills:
Skilled in operation of manual/CNC machine tools.
Strong knowledge of steel materials and machining parameters.
Ability to read and interpret engineering and fabrication drawings.
Understanding of geometric tolerances and fits.
Familiar with WSH requirements for machine shop and hot-work areas.
