Sembawang Park jetty section closed 5 to 29 October 2026

NParks closed part of the Sembawang Park jetty from 5 to 29 October 2026. Lawn works run to 30 June 2027. How to get there from Canberra Plaza.

A section of the 30-metre jetty at Sembawang Park is closed for maintenance from 5 to 29 October 2026. NParks posted the notice on the park page. Use only the open stretch. The rest of the 15-hectare park stays open around the clock, including the natural beach, the battleship playground, and the free carparks at Sembawang Road and Tuah Road.

This is the north-coast park locals use after grocery at Canberra Plaza, not a mall atrium event. From NS12 the walk is the 1.6 km Canberra-Sembawang Park Connector, which starts at Canberra Link. Bus 882 still runs from Sembawang Interchange to the park. Canberra Plaza itself is the FairPrice and Kopitiam stop. The jetty is the fishing deck at the end of Sembawang Road.

Lawn at Sembawang Park, where a section is fenced for construction until 30 June 2027

What is closed, and what is not

NParks lists three live notices. First, part of the jetty is shut 5 to 29 October 2026. Second, a section of the lawn is closed for construction from 9 September 2026 to 30 June 2027. Third, NParks still points at an NEA advisory on water quality at Sembawang Beach. The jetty work is the short window. The lawn fence lasts into next year.

The jetty was started by the British in the early 1940s and finished under Japanese occupation. It is 30 metres long. People fish off it. During the two closed weeks you can still stand on the designated open section. Do not climb barriers or fish from the works area.

The lawn closure is a longer hole in the picnic ground. BBQ pits were upgraded earlier in 2026. The battleship playground and Beaulieu House restaurant are not on the jetty notice. Treat the fenced lawn as a construction site, not extra picnic space.

Natural beach at Sembawang Park facing the Straits of Johor

The beach, the advisory, and a Saturday from the plaza

Sembawang Beach is the only natural public beach in the north. Tide changes the view across the Straits of Johor. NParks still links NEA's page that advised against swimming at Pasir Ris and Sembawang after those beaches were graded Fair. That release is dated 5 February 2024. Grades move. Check myENV the week you go. Do not assume the water is fine for a swim because the park is open.

Kayaking, sailing, and other non-contact water use were still allowed under that advisory. Fishing from the open jetty section is park use, not a swim. If you bring kids, the battleship playground and the sand are the safer default while the jetty works run.

A practical Saturday from Canberra Plaza looks like this. Do FairPrice in the basement while the mall is quiet. Walk or ride the park connector from Canberra Link, or take the North-South Line one stop to Sembawang and bus 882. Eat at Bukit Canberra Hawker Centre on the hill between the two stations if you want lunch before the beach. The plaza foodcourt is the same few stalls you already know.

The National Heritage Board's Sembawang Heritage Trail still lists the park, the jetty, and Beaulieu House among 31 sites. The trail booklet is in English, Chinese, Malay, and Tamil. The jetty closure does not cancel the trail. It just means you photograph the open section and skip the fenced length until 29 October.

Hours, parking, and what to bring

The park is open 24 hours. Parking is free. Carpark A on Sembawang Road has 88 car lots. Carpark B on Tuah Road has 90. Both have motorcycle lots and accessible bays. There is no entry fee. Bring water, sun cover, and insect repellent. The jetty is exposed.

Nearest MRT listed by NParks is Canberra (NS12) or Sembawang (NS11). From this mall, the sheltered bridge dumps you onto Canberra View. The connector is the walk. Do not drive to the jetty expecting the closed section to be open before 29 October. NParks has not published a daily works timetable, so treat the whole period as closed on that stretch.

If the jetty is the only reason you came north, wait until 30 October. If you already live in Canberra or Sembawang, the park is still the evening lawn, the playground, and the beach at low tide. Just stay off the fenced jetty boards and the construction lawn.
