Very good food!
Especially the black granite yam cake and beancurd skin roll were excellent.
It was so good that we ordered a second plate.
Food is great and served warm. Kway Teow Cai Bo is special. Teochew Braised Vegetable is a must-try. Fish maw in this dish is surprisingly crunchy. We had Orh Nee to wrap up our dinner. The pumpkin in the Orh Nee adds another dimension to this dessert. Staff is friendly and polite. Highly recommended 👍
Came here after watching a YouTube video series called 'Art Beyond Museum' by Lotus On Water, a top-notch fengshui gallery in the world. Must try the steamed fish and the yam dessert. Their cai pok kwey tiao and fish maw soup were great too!
I took a long drive to try the dim sum at Chin Lee Tea and Dine. It is a long drive to Canberra Plaza from the East, but it is conveniently located on Level 3. The restaurant is bright and spacious. Customer service is good and attentive.
We ordered the char siew bao, steamed Yam Cake, fried bean curd skin, glutinous rice with chicken, and fried sesame peanut ball.
The steamed Yam Cake is a winner. The texture is soft and chewy, yet firm. The flavor is right. The glutinous rice is also very good; it is well seasoned and tasty. It is closer to a Lor Mai Gai. The char siew bao is just right but not exceptional. The fried bean curd skin is a tad too oily, and the texture is crunchy.
Another winner is the fried sesame peanut ball. It is coated with chopped peanuts. The texture is chewy, and the peanuts are delicious.
Overall, the experience is good. I will make a repeat visit.
Chin Lee restaurant is a luxurious place; the quality of the food and service is all top-level. The appetiser, made of braised peanuts and bean curd, is delicious and fragrant. The salted egg prawn was cooked to a savoury texture, which is a favorite among Singaporeans; the prawn was fresh as well. The second dish was a crispy chicken, juicy and tender, with garlic infused to give it a kick. The last dish, the lup han zai, was cooked beautifully. They cleared dirty plates often and helped to refill our teacups.
We wanted to book the Bedok main branch but it was full, so we quickly called to reserve the Canberra branch.
What a nice mall, Canberra Plaza, smacked right between Yishun and Sembawang and right beside Canberra MRT. Canberra residents are truly blessed! Haha.
During my army days in Khatib, this was an empty place. We usually zipped to A&Z Prata, Chong Pang Nasi, or Sembawang SC for Thai food or white bee hoon.
Anyway, we heard good reviews about this Teochew restaurant, and we love our Toa Payoh-based Swatow, so we decided to give it a try.
We ordered the Orh Luak, which was excellent. Very crispy, and the oysters were large!
The prawn omelette was good.
The Shanghai green was for me average, normal Zi Char fare.
The salted fish fried rice was quite good.
The best was the crispy HK noodles! We ordered the king version, if I recall correctly.
The fish chunky cubes were really fresh and succulent. Not the dry and flaky types. They were really soft and juicy! They were damn good!
We were told by the manager that the fish was sashimi-grade! I forgot what breed it was. We finished the dish in one go, haha. This dish is a must-order, along with the Orh Luak.
I finished off with my favourite dessert, Xing Ren Toufu with longan.
Prices are a bit on the premium side, but it was quite worth it.
I've been to the Bedok branch before, but it was quite some time ago.
I was here for a simple lunch and ordered some dim sum, pork jelly, and cai po kway tiao. (A note on the cai po kway tiao: order it if you don't mind the saltiness of the cai po. I'd recommend ordering it for sharing, and the wok hei was wonderfully fragrant.)
The food was decent, and it's clear they are very proud of their Teochew-style cuisine. The service staff was attentive and friendly. The restaurant is located on Level 2 of Canberra Plaza; to get there, walk straight after coming up from Level 1 via the escalator. The whole place was spacious and comfortable.
One thing that took a star away was the lack of information about the cover charge. Honestly, cover charges are not new to some restaurants, and I personally think it's reasonable, but it's crucial to brief customers so they are aware of what they are paying for and what they are entitled to. Thanks to Manager Florence, she apologized and was willing to waive it for this time (as we ordered aiyu ice, didn't drink tea or water, and returned the wet towel).
I will definitely return again for the great food, tea, and service.
They serve fabulous Teochew cuisine! The price is reasonable, with good service and a clean, nice setting. Easily accessible since it is next to the MRT station. Enjoy! 👍🏻🥂
I had made a reservation for three people for 1 pm, but somehow when we were there, they didn't have a smaller table available and gave us a big round table which I think was suited for 6-8 people. We ordered their famous Oyster Pancake, Roasted Chicken, Beancurd with Shimeji mushroom and Chicken, Sweet and Sour Pork, Prawn Ball and Teochew Kway Teow. Except for the Beancurd dish, which was nothing to shout about, the others were pretty good. The sweet and sour pork, to me, is one of the best I've had – crispy on the outside.
Service staff were okay, but as we were non-Chinese, the waiter kept talking to us in Chinese until another staff member who spoke English came to our help. Special mention to the staff member, Peggy, who was not only pleasant and helpful but gave us impeccable service. One thing to note is that the restaurant charges a $2 per person cover charge for tea, water, and a packet of wet wipes. I think they should do away with this, be flexible, and only charge a nominal fee for water if the customer doesn't want the wet wipes and tea, like many other restaurants.
Decent Teochow Chinese food at Chin Lee. It's quite a hidden gem, as it’s tucked away in a corner on the second floor. We ordered a set menu. Dishes we particularly liked included the chicken, fish, and prawn. Service is good, and they were very accommodating with our larger table as we came with children. Overall, the food and service were pretty good.
